Mount Tongariro Erupts in New Zealand

On December 21, a volcano that is neighbors with a well known volcano known as Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings movies erupted. It is located in a remote part of New Zealand’s North Island.  On November 21, the volcano had erupted for five minutes and spewed around the amount of 2.5 miles of ash. The 6,490 foot volcano, Tongariro, had first erupted in the year of 1897. Scientists have predicted another eruption, with a similar size, to erupt in the next couple weeks, according to the newspaper the New Zealand Herald.  On that same day several flights were canceled on the New Zealand’s North Island.
My thoughts on the volcano are that it seems like there was not a lot of damage so I don’t think much on the subject besides that it is good that no one was harmed during the volcano’s eruption. The only bad thing that has seemed to occur that day was that some plane flights were canceled on November 21st. The reason that I picked this article was because the Lord of the Rings thing caught my eye on the subject. I haven’t seen any of the films but the whole thing made me think the report was going to be a little more interesting. I also decided to write about it because volcanoes are also appealing things to read or write about. I honestly thought I would enjoy the news report more than I did but I did not really like it that much. It didn’t really say much and went back and connected with things that didn’t really have to do with the volcano.
